Fed Cup by BNP Paribas - Poland - Russia 0:1
It was almost noon. Music was about to play from the Mariacka Tower. It was already being played at the Tauron Cracow Arena – the military orchestra was playing the Polish and Russian national anthems. The match was about to begin. It started off quite well for Poland. Agnieszka was up a break and leading 2:0.
Russia went to work though and Svetlana took the first set. The Polish player fought valiantly but saving two set balls did not prove to be enough to save the set. She managed to find her rhythm in the second set and with a little help from Svetlana in the form of unforced errors win the it 6:2. The crowd was electrified and 15 thousand throats started to chant: “Aga will win in Cracow”. Alas, she did not. The two time Grand Slam champion regained her composer, took the initiative and won the third set sealing her victory with an ace.
– I am sad I did not win, it was an important point. I am not happy with the last part of the match. The court is quite slow, and she is the best clay court player here – summed up Radwanska. She also stated that even though Kuznetsova’s current ranking may suggest otherwise, she is still one of the world’s best players. That could be observed on the court today when the Russian picked up the pace in the final set.
– I lost my rhythm a little bit in the second set but I regained my momentum in the third, dictate the points and take advantage of easy balls – summed up the Russian.
The first point goes to Russia, but it is as Agnieszka said – you need three points to win.
